As promised here is a picture of the plaque written into the river bridge that was found during the repairs at the end of the lane.
The inscription reads - P.o.W Camp 44, Gang 14, 1945
We did a little research and the men who build the bridge and the drain were Germans and Italians based at the Goathurst, Bridgewater camp. You can read about one Italian mans experience here, I wonder if he came to Biddisham?
The work is still being carried out on the river bank with a large digger, dams and great concrete squares to replace the drain and help the old river Axe drain into the new.
